Self-Evaluation

Self-Evaluation Looking back at this course, I feel like I have learned a lot about social media and how it can be used in a meaningful way. At the beginning, I mostly used Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for personal purposes, just to stay in touch with friends or share some travel experiences. I didn’t really think much about planning content or how social media could be used professionally or for a bigger purpose. One thing that surprised me is how important it is to think about your audience and the goals before posting anything. Creating the social media plan for the Free Time Activity Centre really made me realize that posting photos or videos is not enough. You have to think about who will see it, what message you want to share, and how to keep privacy safe. I also learned that even small details, like whether a post shows a child’s face or just their activity, matter a lot. I faced some challenges, for example deciding how to write the plan in a way that is clear and st...

Making Afternoons Fun and Meaningful for Kids

Growing Beyond School: Making Afternoons Fun and Meaningful for Kids Prepared by: Lea Valachyova Email: lvalachy25@students.oamk.fi Have you ever noticed how many kids spend their afternoons glued to phones or computers after school? It got me thinking about how much potential there is for them to do something more creative, active, and meaningful instead. That is why I decided to focus my social media project on helping parents discover fun and educational after-school activities in Bratislava. There is a Free Time Activity Centre in our city that offers everything from art workshops and craft classes to sports and educational courses. The best part is that it is for children aged six to eighteen, so there really is something for everyone. The problem is that not many parents know about it, which means kids often miss out on these amazing opportunities. My goal is to bring this centre into the spotlight through social media and show parents just how valuable these programs can be...

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Baltics

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Baltics How a spontaneous summer trip led us to Vilnius and Kaunas, where art, food, and friendly locals made our week unforgettable.  It was the summer of 2024 and I had one week of vacation from work. I started browsing for affordable places to visit and checked where the cheapest flights from my home city, Bratislava, were heading. That is when I came across a flight to Kaunas for about thirty-five euros return. It felt like a sign. I immediately called my boyfriend to ask if he wanted to join me on a little adventure. Neither of us had ever been to this country before, so within a few hours we packed our clothes, booked the tickets and got ready to discover something completely new. The flight from Bratislava was surprisingly short. We departed around half past five in the morning, and by nine thirty-five we were already sitting in a cosy café in Kaunas, eating our first Lithuanian breakfast. We tried a piece of traditional pastry and the...

My Journey Through Social Media: Tools I Use, New Discoveries & My Digital Identity

The Social Media Tools I Use – and One New Tool to Explore      As someone studying Tourism and Hospitality Management and someone who simply loves travelling, social media has become a natural part of my life. I use it to stay connected with people I care about and to share pieces of my travel adventures. The platforms I use the most are: Instagram – My Instagram is private, and I only accept people I know personally or have a closer connection with. I use it like a small, cozy diary filled with photos from trips, holidays and my favourite moments. TikTok – On TikTok, I have a public account where I sometimes post short edited travel videos. I usually wait a few weeks or even months before sharing them, so it’s not immediately clear when I was travelling. It feels like a nice balance between sharing and protecting my privacy. Facebook – My Facebook profile is public, but my interactions are mostly with family members and family friends. I share travel updates, ph...
